Look at the image below. What do you see?
Most of you can recognize this person as Daniel Radcliffe upside down. Let’s take a look at this face right side up.
You are probably wondering why you see him normally upside down when he looks so ridiculous right-side up. I promise, this is the same picture. Look at the first one upside down. Your brain is playing tricks on you. In this image, his mouth and eyes are flipped. Upside down you see nothing wrong because your brain is so good at recognizing faces. You notice all of the features that make up Daniel Radcliffe. Your brain is so quick to jump to conclusions that you don’t even notice how some features are right-side up when the whole rest of the face is upside down.
Let’s take a look at a different illusion.
What do you see this time? Is this picture showing a duck, or a bunny? Now you see them both, don’t you? It depends on which way you look at it. If you look at it left to right, you see a bunny. If you look right to left, you see a duck. The bill of the duck can be the ears of a bunny. The way the eye is positioned, it can be looking in either direction.
Let’s try one more illusion:
Who is this? It’s Albert Einstein. Almost everybody sees him right now. Get ready to have your mind blown! Step away from your screen about 15 feet. It’s Marilyn Monroe!! My mind is blown. Is yours? I don’t know how this one works. I just have no words.
That is all I can show you today. I hope you enjoyed all of these optical illusions. I also hope that your mind has been blown! Mine certainly has been!
